Frequently Asked Questions

Percentage increase = ((New Value - Old Value) / Old Value) × 100. For example, going from 50 to 75 is a 50% increase.

Multiply the number by X/100. For example, 25% of 200 = 200 × 0.25 = 50.

A percentage is a portion of 100. A percentile indicates what percentage of a dataset falls below a given value (used in statistics and standardized tests).

To find the sale price: Original Price × (1 - Discount/100). For example, 30% off $85: $85 × 0.70 = $59.50. Or use our calculator — enter 30% of 85.

Percentage change = ((New - Old) / |Old|) × 100. Going from 200 to 250 is a 25% increase. Going from 250 to 200 is a 20% decrease.

If interest rates go from 5% to 7%, that's a 2 percentage point increase but a 40% relative increase. Percentage points measure the absolute difference; percent measures relative change.

To find the original before a percentage was applied: if a $70 item is 30% off, the original = $70 / (1 - 0.30) = $100. The calculator handles this reverse calculation.
